Can a body reclaim its own movement from the stillness imposed by Soviet Armenian monumental aesthetics?
“Reflection” explores the transformation of stillness into movement, drawing inspiration from the relief on Building №9 of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, created by architect Armen Aghalyan and sculptor Vahe Harutyunyan.
The carved lines of the relief – fixed, monumental, and silent—become a starting point for choreography. Through the moving body, the static forms are reimagined, allowing movement to emerge from stone and suggesting a dialogue between the monumental and the ephemeral, the imposed and the embodied.
“Reflection” asks what happens when a body encounters a monument – not simply as an object to observe, but as a structure to inhabit, resist, reinterpret, and set in motion.
